Senior Pastor Barry L. Townsend Sr.

Barry L. Townsend Sr., a native of Jacksonville, FL, is a distinguished figure in his community, with a life marked by dedicated service and unwavering faith. He attended public schools in Jacksonville, establishing a strong foundation that would support his future endeavors.

In August 1980, Barry embarked on a notable career in the U.S. Air Force, serving his country with honor until July 1992. During his service, a significant turning point in his spiritual journey occurred when he received Christ on May 21, 1991, in New Jersey.

Barry married his beloved wife, Linda Gail Townsend, in 1993. Together, they have raised a wonderful family, including one adult daughter and two adult sons. Following his military service, Barry joined the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked diligently from September 1994 until his retirement in December 2012.

Raised in the Pentecostal movement at the Church of God By Faith Church, where his father served as pastor, Barry's faith has always been a cornerstone of his life. His commitment to ministry led him to become licensed and ordained in several churches. In 2001, he was ordained at Grace International Church under the leadership of Pastor Louis Fields, and in 2009, at Philippian Community Church under Bishop Virgil Jones.

Barry pursued extensive theological education, attending COGBF Ministerial School, Zarephath Ministerial Bible College, and the Pastoral Church Planting School. His passion for outreach and service culminated in the founding of the As You Are Community Outreach Ministry in February 2003, and in 2009, he established Elevation Church, where he served as pastor until April 2024.

Pastor Barry's beliefs are deeply rooted in biblical principles. He holds firm to the conviction that God is our only judge and finds strength and guidance in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

Barry L. Townsend Sr.'s life is a testament to his dedication, faith, and service to both his country and his community.
