Trusting In God
Sermon Notes
Trusting means to be confident with boldness, secure, and sure of.
I see three things we must do when trusting God: rely on, depend on, and believe in. So I am going to equate my love for you as to trust you. I was told to love you with all my heart with all my soul and with all my mind and all my strength.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
LEAN NOT, meaning do not depend on your own instincts. How can we trust God and don’t lean on our own instincts or understanding? Prov 25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, meaning have fellowship with God in all life. The result of such devotion is that God will make the paths straight before us. When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we cannot trust anyone-not even GOD. But GOD knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want than we are. We must trust him completely in every choice we make.
We must acknowledge GOD in all we do. Jesus emphasizes this same truth. He said in
Matthew 6:33 but seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Look at your values and priorities. What is important to you? Where is GOD on the list? What is his advice?
We should make him a vital part of everything we do and then he will guide us because we will be working to accomplish his purpose. Paul said in Romans 8:28 and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God to them who are the call according to his purpose.
Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
We must not be wise in our own eyes. We should always be willing to listen to and be corrected by God’s words and wise counseling. Bring your decision to GOD in prayer, use the Bible as your guide, and then follow God’s lead.
Conclusion: We must always take our issue to God before we take it to man. We should pray to God before seeking any other counsel. We must trust God to give us the answer.
