Who Is Jesus?
Sermon Notes
Jesus is the divine Son of God; He is God the Father the Son and Holy Spirit. He is eternal; that means He always was, is, and will be. He existed and was active with God in the creation of the world. When God said, let us go down and create a man in our image and in our likeness, I do believe that Jesus was in the midst of that conversation.
His earthly ministry began when he was about 30 years old and lasted for three years. Jesus lived a sinless life, suffered an agonizing death, and provided Salvation for mankind. God raised Jesus from the dead to rule with him forever. The Bible says that he is the way, the truth, the life, the good Shepard, the light, the bread of life. It says he is called Immanuel, Savior, the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, Lord, the Son of Man, and the Word.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
And the word became “Flesh” which means became human. Listen, let's think for a minute. It is the day of Christmas that is coming soon and we need to think about how we should be thinking of that day. Is it a day that we just accept as Christmas by putting up the decorations, the lights, and then having fun and enjoying it. Or is it a day that we should really think about Jesus Christ? The one who died for our sins, the one who is called Savior because he is the savior of our lives.
The only begotten of the father” Jesus is God’s only and unique son. Jesus is one of a kind and has a relationship with God, unlike all other believers who are called “sons” and said to be born of God. When Christ was born, God became a physical man. He was not part man and part God; He was completely human and completely God. Before Christ came, people could know God partially. After he came, people could know God fully because he became visible flesh and tangible in Christ.
Christ is the perfect example of the human form. The two most common errors we make about Jesus are to minimize his humanity or to minimize His divinity. Jesus is both God and man. In other words, we minimize his quality of being God, who he said he is. Jesus is the visible, tangible image of God. He is the completion of who God is.
John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Conclusion: We need to think of Jesus just as He is and not who we want him to be. But most of all, he is the one who was hung on the cross and laid in a tomb for three days and got up with all power in his hands.
